1,590 Votes!

I just got back tonight, July 2nd.  The official results are that I got off easy, I didn’t win a seat on the International Nominating Committee.  I never expected to win, but the results are HUGE.  Entirely with your help, I was able to carry Region 2, and win at least one unit in 11 out of 12 Regions in the club.  Only Region 8 had no love…   Receiving 1,590 votes is HUGE, and it’s a great base to work from.

I will run, from the floor, for the International Nominating Committee once again in ‘09! Between now and then I’ll be drafting a motion that will allow any Unit President to nominate candidates for International Office by letter, prior to March 1st.  We have 17 pages of flag rules and not a single page of official voting procedures!  Our Blue Book is inadequate with regard to elections, and allowing equal exposure to both nominees and candidates.

In this round, no one on the IBT took it upon themselves to fix the election issues that were made painfully apparent back in early April.  If our leadership can’t be bothered to assure that we have adequate and proper corporate election procedures, then it’s the membership that will have to set them straight!

Even though I did not get elected, I’m sticking with my campaign promise.  Over the next six months I’ll be scouring the club, looking for senior travel trailer members to come forward to join me, and help restore the necessary balance to our International Board of Trustees.

Bob Thompson didn’t win, but Barry Heckensweiler is also an Airstream travel trailer owner in the WBCCI.  I hope together we can all help influence Barry to protect the core identity of the WBCCI, and to fight for member value added initiatives.  I expect to be copying Barry on much of my correspondence over the next six years. I encourage you to do the same — find a common theme and make sure all of our IBT leaders know what YOU expect out of them!

I’ll be updating this website shortly, but I wanted to get the fastest word of THANKS to you that I could put together.  The support I received was not only from individual members, partial and entire units all across North America, but I also received substantial support from Unit Leaders and Region Officers from all over this club.  More on that later.

There’s plenty to report — plenty to update.  Please stay tuned — I’ll be doing my best to update everything over the next few days.

Until then, spread the word — we didn’t lose, we merely laid the ground work for another run in ‘09!  Thanks again everyone!!
